Airport fares
How much is a taxi from Geneva Airport to the city?
Two systems coexist in Geneva, and they do not cost the same. A street taxi runs on a regulated meter. A booked transfer runs on a fixed price agreed before departure. Here are the real figures for both.
The short answer
Street taxi, official flat rate
CHF 50–60
Airport to the city centre, set by the canton
Booked transfer, our fixed price
CHF 100
Anywhere in the canton, vehicle reserved for you
Yes — the street taxi is cheaper. What the difference buys is set out below, honestly.
The regulated meter
Geneva taxi fares are capped by cantonal regulation. The meter combines a pickup charge and a per-kilometre rate that changes with the time and the number of passengers.
| Pickup charge | CHF 6.30 | As soon as you get in |
|---|---|---|
| Tariff I | CHF 3.20/km | Mon–Fri 06:31–20:29, Sat until 18:00 |
| Tariff II | CHF 3.80/km | Nights, Sundays, public holidays — and from 4 passengers |
| Airport pickup | CHF 7.80 | Leaving the airport perimeter |
| Waiting time | CHF 60/h | The meter keeps running in traffic |
| Luggage | CHF 1.50 | Per piece, per pair of skis, per dog |
Official flat rates from the airport
The canton publishes flat rates per zone for rides leaving Geneva Airport. They apply to licensed street taxis.
Zone A
CHF 25
Airport area
Zone B
CHF 35
International organisations
Zone C
CHF 50
City centre, right bank
Zone D
CHF 60
City centre, left bank
The booked transfer
A booked transfer is not a metered taxi. The price is calculated and confirmed before you travel, and it does not move afterwards — not for traffic, not for the hour, not for the number of passengers.
A vehicle held for you
Booked in advance, waiting at the time you gave. No queue, no availability lottery at 6 a.m. or on a Sunday.
Flight tracked
A delayed landing moves the pickup automatically. You are not paying for waiting you did not cause.
No Tariff II
The meter switches to CHF 3.80/km at night, on Sundays and from four passengers. A fixed price does not.
Luggage included
No per-piece charge for suitcases, skis or a pushchair.
Which one to choose
Take a street taxi if
- you are travelling alone or as a pair, in daytime, with little luggage
- you are not in a hurry and the rank is short
- the lowest possible price matters more than certainty
Book a transfer if
- you are four or more — the meter switches to Tariff II, a fixed price does not
- you land at night, on a Sunday or on a public holiday
- you have skis, several suitcases or a child seat to fit
- you have a connection, a meeting or a train and cannot absorb a delay
- you want to know the amount before you travel, not after
Beyond the city: fixed prices
For anything longer than a city run, the meter becomes unpredictable — distance, time and traffic all add up. These are confirmed prices, Standard class.
